Week #1, Success!

So this last week Mike and I joined weight watchers to help us to lose weight. It's been a frustrating road since we've been married because all we've seemed to do was gain. For those of you who don't know, we were both extremely active in our younger years and in High School we both were on the swim team and the water polo team. We NEVER had to worry about losing weight because we could eat whatever we wanted since we were burning 3000 + calories a day with being in the pool. Additional to that I started running 2.5 miles every night to better my dry land training. Once I graduated, I completely stopped swimming. I got "burned out" as it is said. I went to Weber State for a year and after that year Mike and I "broke up." (we had been dating for about 2 1/2 years) He was preparing to serve a mission and we both felt it was best to part ways. After that summer I changed schools and started going to the University of Utah were I tried out for the water polo team and made it. That once again helped me to stay in shape. I did that up until 2 months before I left for my mission because I broke my arm snow boarding (another sob story, lol). The MTC was just a weight gain TRAP. They stick you in classrooms for 10+ hours a day and serve you the best cafeteria food EVER!! We got I think 3 days a week where we could do exercises for like 45 minutes but that was it. I think I gained like 25lbs during the 9 weeks I was there......yeah it was sickening! Argentina wasn't much better since their two favorite products to cook/eat are bread and oil! Mike actually lost a substantial amount of weight on his mission and that is where he really got into biking which is what we are both using now to exercise. It's been fun!

Anyway much more sob stories and here we are now. We've been wanting to lose weight but just haven't really done anything about it. We've tried exercising but never had any real goals except "we want to lose weight." We wanted to do something that would help us to lose weight but in a healthy way, a way where we will be able to keep the weight off once it's gone.

Last week I finally said that I was done with this. I thought "I've got to do something now because I can't stand the way I look." My clothes are continuously getting tighter and I am DONE with that! The only way we knew how to lose weight or whatever was through exercise because that is what we did when we were younger, we never had to lose weight.

Lately we've been hearing things about weight watchers and my mom actually was doing it and wanted me to do it with her when I got home from my mission but I never got around to it. I started my full-time job within a week of getting home and then two weeks later I was engaged to Mike, lol. Anyway so last Sunday I went into our bedroom where Mike was and asked him if I could sign up for weight watchers and he said "that probably means that I will be doing it too right?" He is funny.....so here we are, a week later and we've already seen success. According to weight watchers, you're not really supposed to see results for three weeks but hey, the sooner the better right?!

Anyway each week I will keep you updated on our progress. This last week I lost 2.6 pounds and Mike lost 5. It's really only supposed to be 2 pounds a week but I guess the first so many pounds come off pretty fast, it's the last bit that you really have to work for.

This last week wasn't too hard. I actually found the program to be quite enjoyable. I liked finding out how many points each item was and figuring out what healthy portions are. I was a little hungry at night time but I pushed through it and now I think my stomach is used to it.

Anyway, I am just really excited for this process. Like I said, I've never lost weight before and never really knew how to do it so this is a huge learning process for the both of us! In a year from now I will be at my goal weight and I am GOING to stay there! It will be a WONDERFUL graduation gift!

Love you all!
